Replace that weak tired “Boat anchor” 351m in your beloved truck with the power it deserves without spending the $15,000+ on a 460 swap and avoid the frustration of extra weight on your steering axle and dealing with motor mounts, accessories, exhaust etc.
You also get to avoid the pig in a poke experience of engine buying because you can test drive this engine! Comes in a 2002 f150.
What you get:
A well built and proven 400m(the stroker big Brother of the 351m) that has the power and torque of a healthy 460 without the weight penalty. It only has 14,000 miles since I built it. It has been extremely reliable having made several event free trips back-and-forth from Texas, a couple of them with a trailer!
It’s nervous system is a Lunati voodoo cam, it’s bored .040 over with balanced high compression pistons and rods from Tim Myers. The heads were shaved to bring the compression up to approximately 10.5:1, and it has a four barrel carburetor.
This thing pulls hard, but still gets good mileage (I got about 14mpg) It pulls well in the normal driving RPM range but will happily come alive if you get on it (think mud!) while still being able to handle a good size trailer!
I hate to sell it! But unfortunately, an accident on my way home from work left me with the inability to drive something that does not have assistive technologies like lane keep assist. so sadly, it’s time for someone else to love this engine, and use it to breathe new life into their beloved classic!
Original truck:
1980 F250
Other fun stuff:
Has a serpentine belt system with the power steering pump and AC compressor from the 2002 F150; no more squealing belts on a cold morning, and maybe now is the time to put AC in your classic… after all the difficult part of retrofitting in a AC into a classic is mounting the compressor and getting the belts to work!
Or… put a high stall converter in it and have yourself a crazy sleeper!
FYI because I can’t drive it due to the accident there is no insurance on it currently, so test drives will have to be my driveway, which is close to an 1/8 mile long, so I guess that removes the need to say no Joy rides, but you can get a good idea of how well it runs.
